#4 O Caipira

At O Caipira restaurant, the couple Irineu Borges da Silva and Judite Pereira da Rosa Borges command the place, which has a farm decor. The dishes served are typically country bumpkin with pork, tutu (dish with beans), kale, pork crackling and chicken. #5 Galinha da Roça

Attached to the guest house of the same name, Galinha da Roça is a restaurant which offers both buffet and a la carte services. The menu has traditional Minas Gerais dishes, such as chicken cooked on a wood stove, but they also have all-can-you-eat fondue. For external customers, the restaurant is open from Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 5pm.

#6 Villa Donna Bistrô

Inside Galeria Europa, Villa Donna Bistrô brings this concept of ‘freshly made dishes’, so go without hurry. Its decoration with crafts from Minas Gerais in a reduced place refers to comfort. Upstairs, it is possible to have meals with a view from the balcony. This restaurant is only open for dinner (at 7pm) from Monday to Wednesday and for lunch (at 12pm) and dinner (at 7pm), open from Thursday to Sunday. #7 Boteco Villa Amarela

Although roast pork with crunchy crackling is the main menu item, there are many other dining options at Boteco Villa Amarela. In the relaxed and rustic atmosphere of this restaurant, all-can-you-eat fondue, grilled steak, trout and other dishes are also served. Closed only on Wednesdays. As the name implies (trutas means trout in Portuguese), the specialty of this restaurant is trout dishes. At Paulo das Trutas, the farm-raised fish ensure they are fresh for preparation. There are two units that offer different spaces. At the headquarters there is a terrace, an indoor and outdoor area, beside a stream and the trout site. At the subsidiary, the environment is simpler, but there are also outdoor tables in a garden. Both units are open every day, from 10am to 6pm.

#9 Dona Mucama

Another pet friendly restaurant in Monte Verde is Dona Mucama. Open every day from 12pm to 12am, the restaurant serves typical Minas Gerais food and also all-can-you-eat fondue. Orders can be made via tablet on the table, both indoors and on the balcony.

#10 O Alquimista Restaurant

The Alquimista Restaurant receives Chef Eduardo Cardoso’s creations, such as a burrata risotto with parma ham or Provençal shrimp with coconut rice. Opened in 2020, this restaurant has been pleasing for its flavors, a cozy atmosphere with a fireplace in the lounge and social projects for food education for children and an introduction to gastronomy for young people. #11 Mizu 

At the same address as Alquimista Restaurante, Mizu is specialized in Japanese cuisine. It also receives the creations of Chef Eduardo Cardoso and is led by a sushiwoman, Thawany Enola de Santana. It is recommended to book in advance. Works on the same Alquimista hours, Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 11pm and Sunday from 11pm to 5pm.

#12 Rasselbock

With wood smoked, this restaurant serves typical German food traditionally prepared. The Rasselbock has a menu signed by the German chef, Christian Batušić and is located in the former headquarters of Fazenda Hotel Itapuá. Pets are welcome with reservation at the outside tables. As for the functioning, the restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 12pm to 5pm, including holidays.

Another option for typical German food is at the Fritz restaurant. This restaurant is attached to the Brewery of the same name. The main feature of this place is the German cuisine, such as Apfelstrudel and German pie. Normally, tour participants at the brewery reserve a table for after the tour, which is the house’s fort and is open every day from 11am to 11pm.

For those who like wine or are just getting to know it better, Wine Not? Restaurant and Wine Bar is a good alternative. They have national (including from Minas Gerais) and international wines. The highlight goes to the choice of glass, bottle or the wine ruler (ideal for tasting multiple wines). They serve contemporary cuisine and some options are burrata, cheese board and dishes such as rack of lamb, filet mignon with cheese, among others. This restaurant has few tables and does not work with reservations, so the tip is to arrive early.

How about spending the day in a super interesting place and still having a typical farm lunch? At Fazenda Pica Pau it is possible to live this experience through the Gourmet tour. Visitors receive a guided tour of all the places where products from the olive grove are produced and processed. It also included an olive oil tasting with bread produced on the farm and lunch with the farm menu. With tours only on weekends, the farm opens from 10am to 6pm and it is necessary to schedule your visit.

#19 Provence Cottage Bistrô

Monte Verde also has a restaurant for lovers of French cuisine. This is the case of Provence Cottage & Bistro, led by Ari Kespers chef who uses grandparents recipes from one of the bistro owners. The menu consists of five dishes plus dessert, depending on the availability of inputs from small producers in the region. It will always be a surprise. Opening for dinner, Thursday to Saturday and also on holidays, reservations are required, as they only receive 24 people per night.

#20 L’Archange Gourmet Bistrot 

Bistro service is also present at L’Archange Gourmet Bistrot, the restaurant of the Saint Michel Hotel, one of the best hotels in Monte Verde. Since 1979 this European-style restaurant has been one of the pioneers in Monte Verde. It has a deck at the outdoor area where pets are welcome.
